Karolina Kurkova’s Quest To Help Aspiring Models.
KAROLINA
KURKOVA decided to participate in Naomi
Campbell's reality television series, The Face, in
order to help aspiring models to avoid the insecurities that she
faced when she first started her career. The Czech beauty and former
Victoria's
Secret Angel also revealed that being bullied as a teenager for
her "big teeth and long legs" had been instrumental to her
success.
"The show is all about possibility and I love to mentor these
girls because so many of them don't have the confidence yet and I
remember feeling that way before I was a model, when people made
fun of the way I looked," Kurkova told us. "It sounds superficial,
but having someone to give you that confidence and tell you that
you're beautiful makes a huge difference and makes you work
harder."
The supermodel was talking at the Peace Earth fundraising gala,
held on Saturday evening at Whitehall's Banqueting House, ahead of
a charity auction. The Face premieres in 2013, with
Campbell and Coco Rocha as
fellow mentors.
"Each one of us is different - I'm a mom and Coco is so young,
which makes it great as we all have different approaches," she
said. "Today, models need to be the CEO of their own brand - they
need to be good at editorial, video, runway, social media and have
a personality."
Kurkova's advice for non-models is less intimidating: "I want
people to know that it's OK to be different and that you have to
flaunt your imperfections. If you have big teeth like me, smile a
lot and if you have long legs don't be afraid to wear long
dresses!"
