In a rare reality, the discovery has been made, that Mining Magnate Patrice Motsepe is one of the wealthiest people in the world. In fact, Patrice is the first black billionaire in South Africa. With a net worth of $2.4 billion, Patrice is $0.1 billion short to match talk show queen, Oprah Winfrey’s $2.5 billion fortune. Patrice ranks in at number 503 in the World’s Billionaire List released by Forbes Magazine on the 03rd March 2008.
Another discovery, rather shocking, is that Bill Gates has been robbed of the title of “Wealthiest man in the world”. The title has been coveted by his investor friend; Warren Buffet aged 77, with a Net Worth of $62 billion. To add salt to the wound, Gates was also beaten by Carlos Slim Helu from Mexico, who takes second place with a Net Worth of $60 billion, leaving Bill to a mere 3rd place with a Net Worth valued at $58.
Other South Africans on the list include Nicky Oppenheimer with $5.7 billion ranking at number 173 and Johanna Rupert with $3.8 billion ranking at number 284.
