Late last week, a controversial art exhibit in New York City entitled “The Assassination of Hilary Clinton/The Assassination of Barack Obama” was raided and shut down before it could be viewed by the public .

In a vacant storefront on West 40th Street in Midtown Manhattan, Boston-born performance artist, Yazmany Arboled, truly believed his racist views, if posed as art, would be protected under the US Constitution. However, no more than 30 minutes after Arboled placed the finishing touches on his exhibit, NYPD, as well as some secret service members, flooded the streets and shut the exhibit down; hauling of Arboled in handcuffs.Though no one was able to enter the premises, its seems to be no coincidence–or surprise to many of the Black Community–that pictures of the exhibit where presidential hopeful Barak Obama is displayed in a negative

light surfaced throughout the media.

There were pictures of an African-American penis plastered on the wall with a sign that says “Once you go Barack” (clearly an innuendo to the longtime saying “Once you go black, you never go back”).

There where paintings of nooses in all sizes on the walls in the exhibit.

The artist even went as far as displaying a picture of Obama and his daughters with the title “Nappy Headed Hos” positioned above them.Although it was a known fact that the very minute Senator Barack Obama became the lead presidential candidate for the Democratic Party racism would be predominant in this extremely racially-charged, and racially-motivated country we call ‘home’, ignorant and benighted acts of racism such as this is not something we had hope to see in the year 2008.It truly seems our efforts to move towards racial-equality are placed on the back-burner for such issues as ‘gas prices’.That is, until something like this happens.The only positive this displays for Barack Obama is how successful he is, and how close Senator Obama is to actually becoming the Nation’s next President. No one would spend countless hours of hard-work and dedication to defame and malign someone they did not actually fear.So to you Yazmany Arboled, we stand together and say:

“YES WE CAN!”
