George Clooney meets Obama to discuss Darfur

George Clooney bailed on the Oscars over the weekend in order to prep for a Monday meeting with with Barack Obama and Joe Biden to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Sudan’s Darfur region.
Chatting with Larry King on CNN from the White House lawn , the hunky actor told the president of his visit to camps in Chad where 250 000 refugees live. He asked the president to appoint a full-time regional envoy who reports directly to the White House, and to ask China to set aside its business interests in the region and pressure Sudan to prevent atrocities. Gorgeous George said that the refugees need “what we do best, what we have done best since the start of this country — which is good, robust diplomacy all across the world.”
The 47-year-old celebrity humanitarian wasn’t scheduled to meet with Obama, but the president invited him into the Oval Office to talk after running into him at the White House.
