You Need To Know-Viktor & Rolf.

Inseparable since they met whilst studying at Arnhem's Fashion Academy, Dutch duo Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren (both born 1969) decided to join forces after graduating in 1992. Their first feat was winning three awards at the 1993 Hyeres Festival with a collection that already betrayed their preferences for sculptural, experimental clothes. Soon afterwards, they joined the ranks of Le Cri Neerlandais, a loose collective of like-minded young designers from Holland who organised two shows in Paris. However, once Le Cri disbanded, Viktor & Rolf continued to produce collections, including one in 1996 called 'Viktor & Rolf On Strike' that decried the lack of interest in their work from press and buyers.

Refusing to give up, the duo created a toy-like miniature fashion show and a fake perfume bottle with an accompanying ad campaign. These artefacts, presented in the Amsterdam art gallery Torch in 1996, established them as upstart designers with an unconventional agenda.

But what really launched their careers was their introduction to Paris couture in 1998, where Viktor & Rolf stunned ever-growing audiences with their highly innovative creations based on exaggerated volumes and shapes. To everyone's surprise and delight, the duo have managed to trans¬late their earlier spectacular couture designs into wearable yet ground-breaking pret-a-porter pieces, showing their first ready-to-wear collection for autumn/ winter 2000. Clinging to a love of ribbons and perfectly-cut smoking suits, Viktor & Rolf shows have become a must-see on the Paris pret-a-porter schedule, and in 2004 they launched their first fragrance, Flowerbomb. They continue to live and work in Amsterdam.
