You Need To Know Designer-Rachel Roy.

Rachel Roy is an American fashion designer, and philanthropist who was born and raised in California. She grew up and attended Seaside High School along the Monterey Peninsula in Northern California. Rachel attended Washington Adventist University , where she majored in liberal arts. After graduation, she moved to New York to continue her work in retail, as well as work as a stylist. It was at this point Rachel collaborated with the founders of Rocawear, which led to an internship with the then fledgling label. She launched her eponymous Rachel Roy line in Spring 2005. Michelle Obama, Diane Sawyer, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Iman, Lucy Liu, Sharon Stone and Penelope Cruz among others have worn Rachel Roy at Hollywood's most prestigious events.In both 2007 and 2008, just shortly after the launch of her line, Rachel was invited to appear as a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, a milestone in a still young career. Also in 2007, Roy was inducted into the CFDA as a new member where she stands alongside other esteemed fashion industry individuals. Rachel Roy is sold in several upscale department stores including Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus. In August 2009, Rachel Roy launched her diffusion line, RACHEL Rachel Roy, which is sold exclusively at Macy’s.

Roy was born on January 15, 1974 in California. She was raised with her brother Rajendra Roy, now the Chief Film Curator of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Her mother is Dutch and her father is Indian.

Roy attended Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Maryland majoring in Liberal Arts. Roy graduated in 1996. Following graduation, Roy began her career in fashion, with an internship at Rocawear. Roy has two daughters, Ava born December 7, 1999 and Tallulah born May 14, 2008.

Rachel's first job in fashion was at a Contempo Casuals clothing outlet in her hometown at age 14. After college, she came to New York City, where she worked as a stylist for magazines and music videos.She became an intern at the urban fashion line Rocawear, where she rose to become creative director of the women's and children's divisions and also met her future husband, Damon Dash. In 2005 she launched her own eponymous fashion collection. In early 2006 Roy received a Bollywood industry award for her contribution to American fashion. Rachel has also seen publicity through the teen market, including at Teen Vogue magazine. In their April 2009 issue, Rachel does a “how-to” where she transforms a regular t-shirt into a punky prom dress.She has dressed celebrities such as Tyra Banks, Kate Hudson, and more.

She has a RACHEL clothes line available at Macy's and was featured in the 2010 fall/holiday Macy's commercial along with Donald Trump, Martha Stewart, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson аnd Sean Combs іn Macy’s ‘Find Yουr Magic’ campaign.
