When up-and-comer Esperanza Spalding took to the Staples Center stage to accept her Grammy award for Best New Artist—beating out heavy-hitters like Justin Bieber, Drake and Florence and the Machine—West decided to comment without commenting, via Twitter. "Damn... I can't find the words to explain how I feel about the best new artist award... Don't wanna say the wrong thing," Kanye wrote.
To be fair, Spalding's win is leaving plenty of people speechless. The 26-year-old multi-instrumentalist is well-respected within musicians' circles, but has yet to become a household name. Hopefully, her win will change all that.
Lady Gaga must be so annoyed. All that effort put into her red carpet cocoon, and she still didn't land the evening's most surprising moment.
