Now here's a great way to show your appreciation for a friend while simultaneously saving the plantet! Instead of getting Vivienne Westwood a frivolous bauble as a present for her 70th birthday, Pamela Anderson has teamed up with the charity Cool Earth and sponsored 70-acres of Amazon rainforest in her honor.
Westwood is a dedicated supporter of the charity, and says "the great thing about Cool Earth is that its activities are focused on the first problem, deforestation.”
Westwood's new 70-acre plot is located in the Ashaninka region of Peru. The land was not purchased by the company, but rather given back to the indigenous communities in the area through a unique partnership. Sponsoring the plots prevents deforestation and will save 18,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere.
