JULIUS NYERERE (April 13, 1922-October 14,1999).
Champion of African liberation

The founder of Tanzania and one of Africa's most revered leaders, Julius Nyerere died on October 14 in London where he was being treated for leukemia. He was 77.
Nyerere led the drive for Tanzania's independence from Britain in 1961. He turned Tanganyika and the Indian Ocean islands of Zanzibar into the unified nation.
Nyerere led the drive to free southern Africa from colonial rule. He also helped to oust dictator Idi Amin from Uganda and spearheaded international efforts to dismantle South Africa's apartheid.
After serving 23 years as president at the head of a single-party state, Nyerere stepped down in 1985 after admitting mistakes in his economic policies. He later helped open Tanzania to multi-party politics. We always remembered his words like ''"When we have African problems, we ourselves have a duty to solve our problems." and ''".....we are poor because they are rich, to us foreign aid is a matter of right, not of charity...."....We wil always love you & R.I.P...Amen..
