
He says: “I have always evolved and taken a different name each time. It’s nothing unusual where I come from.
“Right now I want to be Sean John because that’s where I am.”
The 38-year-old, who has now altered his name six times, is already embracing his more serious identity.
He has been busy promoting his upcoming movie Raisin in the Sun at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
As well as a lead role, he also executive produced the film based on the 1959 play by the same name, which was the first Broadway show written by a black woman and directed by a black man.
