Amy Winehouse was found dead today in her London apartment, her publicist confirmed. The singer was 27.
A statement issued by the Metropolitan Police gave little information about the death, without giving a specific name. The report partly read: "Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.
On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."
Just last month the singer canceled her European tour after a disastrous performance in Serbia in which she wandered around stage, scratching her arms and vaguely singing her hit songs. Though there is no official word about her cause of death (an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow), rumor has it that drugs and alcohol were a factor.
