Britney Spears Reportedly Near Deal for 'X Factor'

Britney Spears got her start on The Mickey Mouse Club, and it looks like she's about to be coming back to TV in a big way. The pop superstar is reportedly this close to a deal to become a new judge on X Factor (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Inside sources say that Brit's fiance Jason Trawick is negotiating the final contract and that it could be signed as early as next week. E! is reporting that Spears was initially offered $10 million but that she is holding out for $16 million.

The X Factor gig would be the final piece in the Britney Spears comeback puzzle that she and her team have been carefully building over the past couple of years. The pop starlet's divorce from husband Kevin Federline in 2006 was followed by a downward spiral that involved briefly losing custody of her two sons, shaving her head, and being committed to a psychiatric ward. The 2008 release of her critically praised album, Circus, helped launch a sometimes-wobbly comeback that had Spears staying out of the spotlight and focusing on her music. Her 2011 Femme Fatale album spawned three top 10 singles and helped Britney reclaim her pop music throne.
