Olympics 2012: Salvatore Ferragamo for San Marino.

The Italian luxury label will be outfitting the tiny Republic of San Marino with uniforms for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

With a population of not much more than 30,000, the contestants from the Republic of San Marino really are having the last laugh in the Olympic 2012 style stakes.

While the enormous Teams GB and USA will step out in identikit Stella McCartney and Ralph Lauren-designed wares respectively, athletes from the microstate will be decked out in uniforms by the luxury fashion house Salvatore Ferragamo.

"Outfits for any occasion" have been conceived by the creative team, from blue, bias-cut linen blazers to be worn over crêpe de Chine shirts to a silk crêpe dress with an or draped organdie neckline.

Footwear - naturally for a fashion house which began by kitting out the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Eva Peron with shoes back in the day - takes centre stage with porcelain-hued, square toed-pumps in nappa leather topped off with Ferragamao's signature grosgrain Vara bow.

And that's not where it ends. The brand's iconic bag, the Sofia, comes in a small version in ecru calfskin. And how to carry all that crisp kit? In a large leather duffle bag or small shoulder bag, with a co-ordinating beauty case for all those toiletries - of course.

So, while they might not have numbers on their side, look out for a coterie of cool, collected and exquisitely turned-out San Marino natives during the Games - easily spotted a mile off.
